Inspired By Real Engineering Practice
Facebook’s EFTW gives teens and facilitators the opportunity to put engineering skillsets into practice. Together, we'll work with your teams on week-long “sprints”: relevant projects that use technological skills to personal or community issues relevant to their lives. We’ll provide you with the materials, resources and webinars through our open source technology platform to simulate what real Facebook engineers work with everyday.
Facilitators: Getting Started
Facilitators are the lynchpin for EFTW having a meaningful impact on teens. Whether you're a CS educator with a wealth of experience teaching engineering principles, or a volunteer leading an after-school program for teens in your community, EFTW is designed to ensure your success as a program facilitator.
Supporting Facilitator Success
EFTW has partnered with Digital Promise, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting innovative teaching, to equip facilitators with the knowledge and tools to lead teams at their after-school program. These trainings take place during Prep Week, the week prior to the project sprints.
During Prep Week, Facilitator Webinars will help to prepare educators to facilitate an EFTW sprint. We will address how facilitators can prepare for their first sprint, as well as outline expectations, opportunities and outcomes of the program.
Facilitator Sprint Manual
The Sprint Manual lays out the core elements of an engineering sprint, and how to replicate one in extracurricular programs.
Facilitator Project Guide
Each sprint will include a Facilitator Project Guide so that educators can facilitate activities to support teens' work.
EFTW is committed to seeing both teens and facilitators get the help they need to design an inspiring project. All participants will have access to the private EFTW Facebook Group, where our Engineering Webinars will take place. From the start of Prep Week through the end of Sprint Week, the EFTW team will be available to help with instructional materials, webinars and online support.
Need help? Stuck on a lesson? Our Group Q&A Polls are an opportunity for teams to share their questions and up-vote the questions of others to be covered during Engineering Webinars.
Find the latest updates on sprint timelines, submission deadlines and project examples designed to keep you connected during your EFTW sprint.
Our sprint schedule will keep you on-track once the project has officially begun.
Learning From Engineers
A core value of EFTW is connection: helping to demystify the world of tech by introducing teens to the faces behind it. Facebook engineers come from diverse backgrounds and build our most innovative products, and we open the doors to how they work by facilitating several Engineering Webinars during each project sprint.
Project Tips & Inspiration
Our engineers will share project and personal insights for teens to move past any obstacles encountered during each sprint.
The pathway for breaking into an engineering career shouldn't be a mystery. Engineering Webinars will provide opportunities to learn about additional educational and career advancement.
